2009 New York City Marathon Lottery

What are my chances of getting into NYC Marathon 2009?
I am extremely interested in applying for the lottery to run in the New York City marathon in 2009. What are my chances of getting in by just entering the lottery? How do I go about it? When is the soonest I can go for it? Is anyone else out there interested in running it as well? Any information is very helpful. Thanks!!
Stick with this, I’ve run the race 3 times and it is a life changing/affirming experience like no other !
For New Yorkers, the chance is about 1 in 3. For others, the chances are a bit better, as the city likes to encourage runners from out of town, and particularly from overseas.
Anyone who pledges to raise $2,500 or so for a designated charity gets an automatic spot. There are other ways in, as well. Look at general policies, on the left side of this link.

New York City Transportation Plan

vacation to new york city with a baby/toddler?
my son turns 1 on sept 14th 09. my family (as in me, my fiance/babys father, my brother, SIL, and there three kids) are thinking of vacationing to new york city about that time of the year. of course, i will need to take my son. we are thinking of staying about 10-14 days, cost/time/work permitting of course. we may rent a plus size van and take turns driving up. or we may fly.
my ?s are:
if we fly, does my son need to use his car seat on the airplane?
after we get to nyc, what are the child restraint rules for public transportation in city buses and/or subways?
can he just sit in a stroller in the buses?
do taxis have car seats if you call the cab telephone number instead of hailing 1 off the street?
we plan to be all over ny and cannot obviously cart around a front face car seat (if you live there or have been there, you kno what i mean lol)
what is the best way to transport my son safely?
If you fly, your little one should be young enough to not require a seat of his own. I recommend not bringing a car seat, as it’s just something you’ll have to lug around with you.
Most people here don’t use car seats in cabs (surprisingly enough, cab and car service drivers actually have some of the lowest risk of accident), and it really isn’t a viable option. On buses and subways no restraints are needed or even possible. On buses I think it would be difficult to have him sit in a stroller – you might want to fold it up and let him sit on your lap and look out the window. On the subway he can easily sit in his stroller, as long as it isn’t rush hour. However, remember that there are a lot of stairs to get into subway stations. Consider bringing an umbrella stroller rather than a big bulky one. Have one person grab the front end and another take the handles and go down stairs that way. They tell you to take kids out of the strollers to get on/off the subway, but nobody actually does that. Just mind the gap and make sure the wheels don’t get stuck.
No, cabs don’t have car seats, and you wouldn’t want to use them if they did. Gross!

Curly New York City Shirt

What should I wear to my visit at a college in New York City on Wednesday?
Well, I have two outfits picked out, so I’d like it if you chose one, that way I could see which one everyone likes more. They are pretty much the same outfit– just different colors. Just if it means anything– I have blue eyes and curly brown– sort of blond hair. Thanks.
Outfit #1:
Short-sleeved gray polo shirt with pretty long denim shorts with gray New Balance sneakers.
Outfit #2:
Short-sleeved sort of bright green polo shirt with really long khaki shorts with totally white New Balance sneakers.
This college thing isn’t formal or anything, so don’t tell me that I have to dress up. I’ve tried dressing up for these things before, and I just end up looking stupid.
Which outfit do you think would look better?
Thanks everyone.
Outfit #2 sounds good but I’d go with jeans instead of shorts.
Just my opinion. Hope it helps.
