Are there any cheaper safe areas in the Bronx?
I work in Riverdale, and would like to get a cheap place. I have a car, but want to be near subways. Are there areas in the Bronx where its cheaper than RIverdale, or more going on?
A few places to consider.
Throgs Neck
Marbel Hill
Norwood
Parkchester
to name a few.
The Bronx is a lot safer than it used to be in back in the day.
Good luck

I wish you kids could answer one simple question without bringing race into it…….whether or not any area is safe is NOT a black or a white issue…there are plenty of areas in the 5 NYC burroughs that are very safe and predominately black… there are areas in the burroughs that are predominately white and aren’t all that safe… you just have to be cautious of where you are and your surroundings… Now, as for cheaper and safer in the bronx….. in the summer you can try around NYU and Columbia Presbyterian Hospital…. apartments become vacant for the summer as school lets out, although ANYWHERE in the 5 burroughs can be very expensive.. I live in Upstate NY about 175 miles due NORTH of NYC and rentals are much cheaper up here then ANYWHERE in the city.

We just rented an apartment in Riverdale that we consider to be a great bargain, and I think it’s a great neighborhood and very safe. It’s a bit of a hike to the #1 subway but the buses run frequently and the transfer is free.

try looking for apartments on little italy in the bronx,a.k.a Arthur Avenue.great place in my opinion the safest second to riverdale, followed by pelhambay and city island.however go for arthur avenue in the bronx, its also very clean,if you wanna take the subway you can just walk to fordham from arthur to take the 12,or 9 bx bus that will drop up practically right next to the subway.do some research and youll see.

You would be better off living straight across the bridge at 181st street to Fort Lee, NJ. You get the awesome view of Manhattan, it is the same price, but in a safe, prime area. Very nice, Fort Lee, Edgewater, Weehawken, called the Gold Coast, and there are buses and ferries to take you across.

i’d stay in Riverdale. the rest of The Bronx may be cheaper, but Riverdale is a bargain compared to Manhattan, and it’s really the only neighborhood you can say that is a diverse, middle-class to upscale, suburban-type neighborhood you can feel comfortably safe in, and be more convenient to Manhattan if you ever need to go there.
