How do you become an actress on broadway?

Like do you have to go to college and what exactly are they looking for in terms of actresses for Broadway? What are the auditions like? It would be great if someone that has either been on Broadway themselves or they’re really close to the audition process would answer, but you can answer anyway!

There is no tried and true method of getting on Broadway. Some would argue going to college helps. Others argue that if you have the knack, you just go. I have met some people who were found busking on the street, and they ended up on Broadway. Others were in plays and a producer saw them and offered a role in a bigger play.

I’d say that unless you have the guts to be turned down a lot, go to college. Get some formal training behind you, and then work your way up. Take whatever role you can get, small or big. Start out at the regional level working in LORT theatres, Work your way up the LORT chain, and get into bigger and bigger houses. If you’re meant to be on Broadway, and have the ambition, it’ll pan out. Audition for every role you can, and keep acting.
