Is there any stops in a Brisbane to New York flight?

Yes. The most common option from Brisbane is to change planes at LA. It is also possible to change at San Francisco.

QANTAS advertise "direct" flights between Sydney and New York. At present these still land at Los Angeles but (in theory) passengers going on to New York don’t need to get off the plane. In the real world the choice may be between being stuck on the tarmac on your delayed "direct" flight or sitting around in the incredibly attractive and welcoming (!) LAX terminal while waiting to change planes.

Now that QANTAS is using Airbus A380′s they may extend to real direct flights at some stage. This would probably be seasonal, related to the high altiude jetstream over the Pacific.
